The Northwest Junior Jamboree is the major inter-regional competition of the season, bringing together top teams from the three USAV Regions that span Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho and Montana.  At times in past years, the Jamboree has also had entries from California and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.  It is the largest tournament of the year, played on 58 courts this year distributed over several multi-court venues in Yakima.  All teams will play two pools prior to beginning playoff brackets. In the U-16 and U-14 Divisions two competitive divisions will play simultaneously, referred to as Power and Challenge divisions.  These can be compared to the Open and Club designations used in other USAV competitions.  This allows all teams to compete at the appropriate level for their team and avoids the unrewarding mismatches that inevitably occur when stronger, more experienced teams match up with less seasoned teams in the early rounds of a tournament.

Format

Two rounds of pool play followed by either single-elimination or modified double-elimination playoffs, depending on division.  All matches are best 2/3 games.  All teams play a minimum of seven matches.

Power Division play on Saturday will begin at 8 a.m. and continue into the second round of pool play, ending about 7 p.m. for U-18 and around 5 p.m. for U-16 and U-14.  U-16 and U-14 Challenge Division play on Saturday will be one round of pool play in either an a.m. or p.m. wave. The a.m. wave will start at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.  The p.m. wave will start at 2 p.m. and end around 8 p.m.  Challenge Division teams in both the U-16 and U-14 divisions will only play one pool on Saturday but will play their full second pool and bracket play on Sunday.   The U-12 Division will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Following play in Pool 1, teams will begin play in Pool 2.  Saturday's play should still end around 6 p.m.  All teams, regardless of Power or Challenge Division, will start play on Sunday at 8 a.m. Some divisions might finish as early as 6 p.m. while others might end as late as 8 p.m.

----------------------------------

Coaches meeting will be Friday evening, March 14, 2008 at 9 p.m. at the Howard Johnson Plaza Yakima Gateway Hotel, 9 North 9th Street (on Yakima Avenue). Doors will open at 8 to pick up coaches packets. The short meeting will begin at 9 p.m.  Coaches packets will be handed out and last minute information will be disseminated.  There will be some changes/corrections announced to the book.  We strongly encourage attendance at the coaches meeting, but packets not picked up Friday night will be available for pick up Saturday morning at various locations (U-18 at East Valley High School, U-16 at West Valley High School, U-14 at Selah High School, and U-12 at Eisenhower High School.)

All Power Division play will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday. All a.m. wave Challenge Division play will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday. All p.m. wave Challenge Division play will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.  All U-12 play will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday.   On Sunday all play for all divisions will start at 8 a.m. It is strongly suggested that all coaches have an up to date copy of their USAV roster with them at their first match on Saturday should there be any questions regarding eligible players and/or officiating certification.

Entry - A Three-Step Process

1.  The first date that entry can be requested for an Evergreen Region Tournament is Saturday, December 8, 2007. Please email l.danielson@charter.net with your request. One person (such as the club director) can make entry requests for all the teams in one email if desired. Specify your club, the actual team name and age division. Make sure you include the contact name as well as an email address and phone number.

2. Follow up by printing and sending the entry form (see below) for each team to Team Yakima, c/o Linda Thomas, P.O. Box 8343, Yakima, WA 98908.  You may send one check to cover multiple teams but we need a separate entry form for each team.  The entry fee is $250 per team.  Make checks payable to Team Yakima.  Send entry form ASAP even if you do not have your USAV registration completed yet.

3.  When you have them, send rosters with player USAV numbers, uniform numbers and officiating certification to same address by March 9 at the latest.  Please begin your efforts early in order to have your roster by that date.  In order to participate it is mandatory that your roster be submitted.

4. Since you will have very little tournament experience this early in the season on which to base your specific information, it is not necessary to specify which division you would like for your team unless you are quite sure of your team's comparative ranking.  The seeding committee will review the results of tournaments in all three NW Regions and will arrive at seeding decisions.  If you wish, you may  submit seeding information updates to Larry Danielson by email at l.danielson@charter.net up to 3/2.  Be sure to identify the Club name and Team name in your email.  Information submitted after 3/2 will probably be too late to be considered.  Seeding is expected to be completed about 3/7 utilizing comparative tournament results and coaches suggestions.  Tentative seeding results and playing sites will posted on this website (www.teamyakima.com ) as soon as completed, hopefully by Monday March 10

Entry Form  click here.  Print the form (right click-print) and send it by mail to Team Yakima, P O Box 8343, Yakima, WA 98908.
